Are vita-mix blender worth $400?

by admin May 18th, 2009. Filed under: vita mix blender.

We are planning to do serious smoothies everyday for breakfast etc. So we need something that will grind whole fruit, frozen fruits, flax seeds, pine apple etc.

We saw vita mix does all this but costs $400!

Is it worth it?

The vita-mix is really good, but I bought the Kitchenaid ProLine model for half the price. It's simple, easy to clean, and I haven't found anything it can't turn into a powder of syrup in seconds. It has 1hp vs the vita-mix's 2hp, but 1 is more than almost any blender on the market & it's enough to pulverize matchbox cars so 2hp is probably overkill.

Considering good blenders can be had for less than $50, I would be very skeptical. Spend $50 and see if does what you need. Even if you had to replace it annually, It would take 8 years of replacements to justify the $400

I make fruit smoothies all the time in my $40 kitchen Aid. No problems after 5 years.

Yes! You get what you pay for with blenders. The Vita Mix will do in seconds what many less expensive blenders will take forever to do … if at all.

The vita mix and blendtec blenders are awesome, but they are way more than most people need. They have 2-3 HP motors and thicker blades. It will give you the smoothest smoothies around. Blendtec and vitamix are used by jamba juice, starbucks, etc whee it is going to get constant use and where high quality and consistancy are expected.
You can get bledtecs and vita mixes at costco or sams when they do demonstrations, for about 50 less than retail.

A regular "Bar quality" oster, waring or a consumer quality kitchen aid blender would do everything for you except the flaxseed. Believe it or not, the cheapo hamilton beach's came in very well in tests by consumer reports and america's test litchen. HB scored better than krups and cuisinart. My 1.2 HP kitchen aid has lasted me like 15 years.

If you use alot of flaxseed, you could buy the preground flaxseed. Ground flaxseed gets rancid fast so if you use it alot, and want to save money, get a waring commercial bar blender or a kitchenaid blender for about 75-150 and use the extra money for more fruit

Anything that makes the weight go away, is well worth it.
