Does the KitchenAid 300 Series Immersion Blender (9 Speeds) come with a pulse feature?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Hey thanks! My ma wants one of those mixers that actually has a pulse action – it starts and stops on it’s own. Do you know if any other suppliers of immersion blenders have a pulse feature or are they all manually pulsed?

Well, sort of: your fingers. Like most immersion blenders, it has a speed dial, but the operation of the blade/whisk/blender is all controlled by a single button. By repeatedly pressing and releasing the power button, you can pulse things. And they do recommend that if you’re using the chopper attachment.

Just saw your update–sorry for the delay. I’m sure there’s others out there, but the only one I found via Google was a Dualit 500-watt immersion blender on Amazon. It does have the pulse feature. Second link below. HTH.

Can I make pumpkin pie crust without using a food processor?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Last time I used my $45 blender and ended up making a massive mess. The butter ended up caking to the bottom and freezing the thing up… very frustrating!

Now I’m making it again and I used the whisk on my kitchenaid stand mixer (even though I know I’m not supposed to but what was I to do?) and my "dough" was really crumbly and didn’t stick together very well. I stuck it in the fridge to cool anyways, and so here I wait.

Have I set myself up for UN-success?

I don’t use an electric tool for making pie crust. I just cut the butter into the flour mix using a fork.
